Welcome to the Southern Foodways Alliance -- an institute of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture with headquarters at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi.

The Southern Foodways Alliance documents and celebrates the diverse food cultures of the American South. We set a common table where black and white, rich and poor -- all who gather-- may consider our history and our future in a spirit of reconciliation.

SFA Oral History Initiative
Labeling

Establish a system for organizing your interviews, using the Southern Foodways Alliance Oral History forms as your primary records. Each recorded interview should be labeled with the specifics listed below. Keep a Sharpie pen on hand to label tapes on site as interviews are conducted (do not wait to label recordings later).

Each tape/disc should be labeled with the following information:

  • Date: date of interview
  • Subject: name
  • Interviewer: name
  • Tape/Disc: number 1 of 2, etc.
  • Side: A or B
  • MASTER or DUPLICATE

REMEMBER: Make two (2) duplicate copies of the interview. The original recording should be labeled MASTER; the copies should be labeled DUPLICATE.

Be sure to complete the Recording Log found in the Forms section.
